Problem with MacOSXUpdateCombo10.2.8.dmg
« on: October 06, 2003, 03:56:28 PM »
I downloaded MacOSXUpdateCombo10.2.8.dmg from Apple. No problem with the download process, but the dmg failed to mount. DiskCopy reported that it could not verify the dmg. I tried a second download and it still failed to mount. Fortunately I have DSL so the download of 97 MB took only about 10 min. I also downlaoded MacOSXUpdate10.2.8.dmg, which mounted without problem and from which I upgraded from 10.2.6 to 10.2.8 without difficulty.

17" G5 iMac with 250 MB Ram. Both downloads were done using iCab 2.9.6.
After running Disk FirstAid and verifying permissions, the MacOSXUpdateCombo10.2.8.dmg still failed to mount.

Follow-up:
Several people have reported the same problem at MacOSX Hints. Some found that the problem occurred when downloading  MacOSXUpdateCombo10.2.8.dmg with Safari. The dmg could not be mounted and DiskCopy failed to verify the dmg. However a few had no problems mounting after downloading with Explorer. However, when I downloaded with Explorer (v 5.2.3), the dmg failed to mount because of verification failure.

As noted at MocOSX Hints, the problem can be side-stepped by turning off verification in the Disk Copy Preferences. Both versions, the iCab and IE, that I downloaded mount with verification turned off. Not sure if I will use the updater.

Thanks for the updated info- I was eager to hear the solution. It truly is appreciated.

FWIW, I have had no problems with the 10.2.8 updaters.

I put it on my slave drive to give it a run through before I put it on my main drive again. One game was eliminated, but I was able to reinstall with no problem. I have to do a restart in order to eject a CD. The usual variety of ejection methods will make the CD icon disappear, without ejecting. So far that is the only problem I have had.
