Hi, been reading the forums here and other places and they say the best way to install Panther, is a clean install, which I will be doing, But can a person get prefs from, my backup of jaguar 10.2.8, and install them in panther, like my mail , bookmarks, etc.
Can I just drag them in there place.?

Not to many more sleeps, so any help would be great,

Nikki.
Panther isn't out yet.
So I've a feeling why you haven't gotten a response/reply yet is because know one really knows .. except some 'beta' testers.
We are all going to be on a learning curve perhaps.

I think you might be able to do this...you can do it now from 10.1 to 10.2, but if you have .mac, what you can do is use iSync to sync up your bookmarks, address book, iChat prefs, etc. Works great!

Reason I don't like bringing old prefs over is you never know..it could cause problems, it might not.

From personal experience, I have to agree with JK.
I've dragged 'saved' bookmarks etc over to new systems and all hades has broke lose.
Then other times all went well. Hit and miss with the same systems.
With a whole new OS ....
Al though if the new OS has an export/import feature.

I installed Panther over an existing 10.2.6 system without any problems. When I get the final version I woill do the same on one machine. If I have any problems, I'll post.

So are you saying bobw that the preferences from your 10.2.6. system moved into or stayed on the panther build installation?

Yes. all preferences remained or were updated. I also backup my entire drive with CCC weekly and my important files daily, automatically in the background with IMsafe, this includes all mail, settings, bookmarks, etc. So if I were to have any problems, I still have everything that could possibly be lost.

Number one rule of computing - BACKUP
