Panther...........usb?
« on: October 28, 2003, 11:44:04 AM »
1 G4 (md) Dual 1GHz, Memory 1024 MB, OS X 10.2.8

1G3 (beige) 300mhz prrocessor, memory 640 MB, OS X 10.2.8

Purchased Panther today and decided I would experiment and install it on my G3 over the  top of 10.2.8, Lo and behold up pops the message " Mac OS X10.3 cannot be installed on this machine" the only failing that I can see is that the G3 does not have an inbuilt USB. It does have a fully functional USB card, does this make a difference?

You'll probably need XPostFacto. It's not ready for Panther yet, but probably will be soon.

You are correct about the built in USB requirement. Apple made that requirement so as to exclude those older machines from being sypported, probably due to the class action lawsuit filed against Apple for having less features than promoted on those older machines with MacOS X.

Thanks GiantMike, you have confirmed my worst scenario.......the reason I would have liked The Big P on my Beige G3 is that this is the machine I prefer to make mistakes on.
HO Hum.
