Cat 5/Crossover ?
« on: October 31, 2003, 12:27:21 PM »
What's the difference?

One of the things I've read recently is that the Cube might require a crossover ethernet cable instead of the regular cat 5  huh.gif

Somehting about the ?cube's ethernet not being able to distinquish something or other.......

The question begs itself.

What is/how do I know a crossover cable from a cat in a sack?

The cable should say Crossover. I have a few, and they all have "Crossover" printed on them.

Jennie. Cat 5 is Category 5 Cable. smile.gif

There's Category 1 etc.

They have 8 wires of standard colors.

http://www.cabletron.com/support/techtips/...s/tk0231-9.html

With a Straight Cable the arrangenent of the wires by color is the same on both ends.

With a Crossover Cable the wires are different on both ends.

You can go to the store and just buy a "Crossover Cable".

It will say so right on the package.

Any more quesions? smile.gif
