New iBook opinions
« on: October 31, 2003, 03:01:33 PM »
I'm considering the purchase of one of the new iBooks and was looking for some opinions...  so if anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate them very much.  I'm looking at the low end 12" and the low  end 14".  Thanks

New iBook opinions

I myself am thinking to switch over after newyear.
I'm not sure if i wold buy an 14" iBook, although i like how they look.
The bad thing for me is, that iBook doesn't have a (standard) option to link an external screen up (and than use that one as your main monitor).
That's why i'm looking into the 15" Powerbook probably.
Anless i get lucky and am able to buy a G5 with tft... but i don't think i can bring u that money.
I'm also waiting till newyear, cause i hope they will again upgrade all the hardware and maybe even new G5 powerbooks... but that's just a hope off course wink.gif
As for the iBook itself, i think it's an amazing machine but i feel they are hanging on the edge of present requirements to play games well (buy one now, and next year the graphic card will be outdated).

Thanks for the input.  I don't plan on doing much gaming at all, mostly just surfing the internet, some small programming, word processing, and a little bit of movie editing.  Oh and of course I would use it for music too.  Portability and a low price tag are important.  So I'm thinking this would be a good choice.

Hold in mind that doing movies (converting) will take a lot of processor speed and also take in consideration about the size of the harddisk.
I would suggest an external one actually.

I wish that I could give an opinion on the new iBook.  I ordered the 933mhz iBook with a 14 inch screen from Club Mac a week or so ago but it is still back ordered.  They say that it will be another 3-8 business days before they get it in.  Last week they said it would be in by 10/31 but ... .  I'll post my opinion of it when I get it.

Thanks for all your help.

As for the movie editing, i'm currently doing OK on a 350mhz g4, so i'm sure the iBook would atleast be a small step up.  Any movie editing i do would be very minor.  And for the hard-disk space, i currently have 3 hard drives in the g4 tower and was planning on pulling one of them out (80 gb) and hooking it up to an external firewire case of some sort and then connecting it to whatever I end up getting.
