your area? Last I heard it was supposed have been contained earier this week. But contained doesn't mean it is necessarily over yet.

Gary, yes, it's close, less than a half mile from my home. The smoke was overwhelming here and went all the way to Waikiki where the haze could be seen throughout the streets. Our clothes, house, cars, everything smelled like a BBQ for two days.

Bruce, not much rain, would have helped a lot. Most of the forest up there on the crater is made up of two types of very hard woods. One we call Keawe and the other is Hale Koa. Once they char they can retain the heat and embers like a charcoal very well. Last night I still could see a few embers glowing in the night.
