Looking for simple webpages for students' artwork
« on: December 09, 2003, 07:43:07 PM »
How do I make nice, simple (free or nominal) webpages for kiddos art, and include some text too?

I'd like to take some digital photos of my kiddos art work as I'll be teaching that subject during Spring semester--you may recall that I work with high schoolers who have developmental disabilities.

I think they'd get a kick out of seeing a website with their work on it (of course, no personal info or high school name or location, etc for safety reasons!)

I know next to nothing about setting up a website...but I know how to use photopoint to upload photos!

Baby steps, I need baby steps for this.   Think of me as a total and complete novice!  (I am!)

Thanks for any help or ideas!

Smiles,
Sooz

Sooz:  Look on some old disks, you probably have "Apple Web Page Construction Kit".  It's a step by step.

Are you using OS X?
Here are some free web page programs:

http://www.mac4ever.de/webalbum/

http://www.datadosen.se/jalbum/

http://www.myriad-online.com/perso/photos/...nformation.html

This last one, Galerie, was designed originally to make better sites than iPhoto, but it can be used on any folder of images, without going through iPhoto.

At first glance, these programs may seem a bit complex, but try using the defaults first. You can view the results by dropping the index page on your browser icon, or the program may open the resulting website in your browser automatically.

"but Bill will be along any minute"
WHY have I been hearing that for years now? <gr>

Sooz I had or have a ton of bookmarks on cheap ((see Jen CHEAP! Want a toaster)) servers but can't find them.

Thanks Jennie and Thomas (I'm on OS 8.6) !

As for Bill, I reckoned he'd be posting tonight too! (Hey, pal!)  When ya come across something, let me know by private e-mail, 'kay?  I may just upload to an on-line photo album when the kids start doing their art work!

Sooz, this web-hosting service may be just the ticket:

http://members.freewebs.com/

One of our Middle School teachers uses it, and unlike many "free" sites, it has no banner ads or any sort of advertising. You can even get your own domain name (I'd recommend GoDaddy.com who are currently offering .com names for $7.95) and use that at freeweb.com if you wish.

They also offer site-building tools, so you don't have to know HTML - or you can upload using FTP and any website software you have.
