Recording streamed sound on an iMac
« on: March 07, 2003, 04:43:00 AM »
At the risk of testing the patience of you helpful lot.. is it possible to record on to the hard drive a streamed radio programme (uses Real Player)? Or is a lead from headphone socket to cassette recorder the only way? I've had a look at Apple's knowledge base but came out none the wiser. The station is BBC Radio 2 (click on Listen and choose Sounds of the Sixties if you're feeling nosy). A friend of ours got a mention and we want some fun at his expense      . iMac DV-SE (graphite) OS9.1.
Thanks in advance

Streamripper  -  1.0.5 (freeware) is supposed to do what you seek: "Saves shoutcast, icecast, live365 and similar mp3 streams to local mp3 files.
Size: 132k" http://macosx.forked.net/

Please let us know if it works.

Thanks Harv - Just checked out that site, but all refs seem to be for OSX. I'm at work (on PC) at the moment, so won't be able to check it out until I get home this evening (afternoon your time!), but will let you know over the weekend.

Audio Hijack does this, but again it's OS X.
There's now a pro version on offer.
For various reasons, I've been scouting in vain for a PC equivalent.
