Jim C: That bet of yours.

You gave MacAddict six months...
I failed to take you up on it at the time.
I wonder.
When the latest issue arrived here, it did still have a cardboard cover for the CD, presumably to withstand the rigours of flight.
I didn't buy it, though. Imported Mac mags are expensive enough to make me picky and I wasn't grabbed by the contents.
I've yet to make up my mind on whether the recent editorial change has been for better or worse, but it seems still to be too geared to a clique audience for my taste.
Which is risky when Mac addicts are themselves but a small niche of the computer market.

I know what you mean. Matter of fact, I haven't even read anything in that issue, yet. It is somewhat junvenile in many respects. Unfortunately, I have no Mac users in that category. It is a group that we would sorely like to attract to our MUG. I have heard that there were a lot of 'youth' at the SF show, however, so I guess they are out there, just not many around here.

Perhaps my cardboard sleve just fell off prior to making it into the mailing wrapper. Or maybe they make sure the ones going to news stands have them.

At any rate, the signs are similar to the demise of the US version of Mac User. Another similarity is that they seem to have the same reviews of software and hardware. That was usually the case with Mac User and Mac World. You'd think they could come up with different topics between them.

So, what do you think about the 'bet?!' If I win, will you put me and my wufe up in Paris for a couple of weeks?!

If I win, what about a free course of flying lessons?

Sadly, I don't think we have a bet here.
You read my mind, but put it more politely. Where you said "somewhat juvenile in some respects", I was thinking more on the lines of "breathlessly, gushingly adolescent"!
Not that I'd want to knock the enthusiasm, but is it enough of a recipe to keep selling?

You sur do have youth in the mac groups-

here in Penn Yan our school switched to PCs-

you would be amazed how many kids were upset (mostly 8th grade and 9th grader- my friends)

Don't worry the mac will live on in the next generation of users

Jim/Taliesin ...mine did not have a cardboard sleeve either...thought that was odd.  So you think Mac Addict might be on its way out???  I have to agree about the content. However; they do have some good stuff once in a while...like the upgrade article of the previous month.

Although not really new, this message from our MUG reminds me of another reason to belong. This rate is available to any MUG member. Haven't seen MacWorld do that. We also get some great deals on books from Peachpit, and often on books/software donated for reviews.

quote:
Dear Mac lover,

If you're like me, your Mac is more than just your computer.  It's your
friend.  Your good buddy.  Your amigo.

And that's a good thing.  We Mac addicts are a passionate bunch -- and
nobody's more passionate about their Macs than we here at MacAddict
magazine.  We live Mac, 24/7.

Like you, we love to share what we know about our Macs.  How to get
the most out of them.  What to buy for them.  How to have fun with
them.  How to squeeze every last drop of Mac goodness out of them.

And so we write an award-winning Mac magazine -- one with a monthly
mountain of Mac facts, advice, news, and expertise.  Oh yeah, and
attitude.  Plenty of attitude.

Can we share all this expertise with you?  It won't cost you much.
How does $24 for one year sound?  That's a full 75 percent off
our cover price.  Not good enough?  Then we'll throw in our monthly
software-stuffed CD, as well -- and how about if we knock the
price down to $22 if you pay by credit card?

Sound good?  I hope so -- and I hope you join us.  We Mac addicts
have to stick together.
