Anyone know were you can by used G3/4 chips
« on: March 18, 2003, 07:05:00 PM »
Hi, I have a G3/G4 that I want to upgrade with a faster processor but I don't want to use one of those Sonnet etc accelerator chips. I want to use an original one, plus I heard that those accelerator G4 chips don't work like the real ones and that IDVD will not recognize a DVD Burner unless I have the real thing.
Can anyone tell me if there is such a place? I found other places where they sell you the mother board but not the cpu.
My G3 is a B/W 300 Mhz and my G4 is 733 Mhz, I would like at least to make my G3 faster.

Don't understand your objections to an Upgrade for the B&W.

For an original check e-bay. I'm sure there's lots of them.

FWIW. "iDVD requires a G4 CPU, you need a G4 ZIF CPU upgrade for the B&W G3".

From one of the Reports here, found under B&W, IDE and Pioneer,

which is the most common SuperDrive.

Do you have a Superdrive in your 733?

Looking through the Reports that's not true.

Check them out.

I think you misunderstand what you read.

Apple only supports iDVD on Apple G4 computer systems. They do not support iDVD on any G4 upgrade.

That means, they do not support iDVD on any Blue and White G3 with a G4 chip. A Blue and White G3 with a G4 chip is an upgrade. It did not come with a G4.

You seem to be thinking that an "upgrade chip" is different from an "original chip." This is not correct; a G4 chip is a G4 chip is a G4 chip.

The chip is identical. It is called an "upgrade" if it is not the chip that was originally in the computer when Apple made it. Apple uses the word "upgrade" to mean "Any computer system that does not have the chip that Apple put in it." Apple does not support any upgrades of any kind; however, that does not mean that it won't work! It just means Apple will not help you if it doesn't.
