Dude I have the same screen thing come up whenever my Monitor cable, USB/FireWire cables are loose. Check your cables.

OJ,
Can't check the cables-that Mac is in the shop!

I did check them though when I was troubleshooting it myself and they were very snug before i took it in for repairs.

I was just at the Apple dicussions board and it seems people are having this problem (upgrading to Jaguar-kernel panics) if their ASP doesn't show a serial #.

Gary, for what it's worth, my upgraded Sawtooth doesn't show any serial number in the ASP, and I've had no issues whatsoever with 10.2.4.

If you look at the those Apple Discussions carefully, you'll see that it's actually only a couple of people with the "serial number theory"...and they've both been posting in several threads.

What the lack of serial number in the ASP indicates is beyond me - in my case, it may have something to do with the processor upgrade...and no, I'm not going to put my old processor back in just to test this theory!

However, I think it sounds like your Mac is in good hands, and your problems may well be something to do with the Superdrive.

The people (the two chief complainants anyway) at the Apple Discussions seem to have some sort of hardware issue going on, since both have tried their drives elsewhere, installed Jag and then gotten kernel panics when the drives are put back in the troublesome machines. All other removable hardware has been switched, tested, whatever. Hardware issue of some sort probably...not likely a firmware thing with so few individuals reporting the problem. No fun when your machine is out of warranty!

Paddy,
I think your right too about them having a hardware issue but I didn't want to come right out and say I thought they were barking up the wrong tree over at the Apple forums.....they're desparate and I know how they feel. I'm just glad mine is under
warranty!

I mentioned my situation and that's about all could do. I hope they find a fix too.

Hey, Gary, I hope this sorts itself out for you quickly.
Your first posts stumped me and I couldn't think of anything apart from suggestions already made; it's such a drag to spend time like that to find out it's the hardware.
All the best as soon as you get the machine back.

One shows the serial # and the other doesn't.

I upgraded to Jag on both.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it,when I switched the HDs around I started from a fresh OSX again and upgraded to 10.2.4.

Same when I repartitioned. Except one I used CCC to copy over to the newly partitioned drive.

I'm inclined to agree about the ruff ruff in the tree bit.
