Am I obsessed with my imac?
« on: March 22, 2003, 07:19:00 PM »
Ok my wife thinks I'm nuts.

I decided that my FP imac's all white Keyboard was too dirty to continue using.

I had tried alcohol swabs, vacuum cleaners, compressed air, damp cloths etc...

The result was still a grungy keyboard.  My solution... I pried every key of off the thing and removed the screws.  Every key and every other non electronic piece took a warm soapy bath

I had taken a picture with my digital camera beforehand so I could easily figure out where each key went back.

It now looks shiny white again

So am I nuts?

Steve

p.s. I am typing this from the same keyboard

Of course not.

I've done the same with various Mac & PeeCee keyboards reclaimed from the Andover recycling days. A real bummer was the time I spent several hours with one keyboard, carefully cleaning it and reassembling it, only to discover upon plugging it in that the reason it had been dumped in the first place was that it was entirely screwed up and didn't work!    I now test them first.

I do the same thing every once in a while to get it clean. Am I nuts? I'll leave that for you to decide.
