Unable to read mail "Not Enough Memory"
« on: March 26, 2003, 08:30:00 AM »
Using OE5 and 1.0.1 Mail on a G3 MT 333 512 Ram.  The error message read  "An error occurred while launching.  Not Enough Memory".     Any suggestions?

Hi Ralph.

Not sure what 1.0.1 Mail is.

Are you in OS 9.x ?

Have you tried giving the Application more Memory?

Kelly,
Thanks for reply.  I am running 9.2.2 and just installed Jaguar on the other start disk.  I am not ready to commit to OS X just yet.  When I "Get Info" on the "Mail" icon on the desktop it  says "Version 1.0.1 Apple Computer".  I increased the memory as follows:  Suggested 200  Minimum to 300 and Preferred to 500. This probably is somehow involved with the Jaguar upgrade?

Are you trying to run Jaguar's Mail program from your OS 9.x Drive?

If so. That won't work.

Jaguar's Mail will only run under OS X.

Kelly,
I don't think so I am using OS 9 for Mail.  I can't get it to work on OS X. I increased the preferred memory on OE 5.0.2. Still no luck.

I'm still confused Ralph.

Are you asking about running your OS 9.x stuff under OS X?

Kelly,
Sorry for the confusion, I am confused as well. OS 9.2 is my startup system.  OS X is loaded but I am only using experimentally.  When I feel of certain of saving address book, favorites and other files I will go over to OS X full time.

Ralph, I'm not sure quite what you're up to, but you definitely CANNOT use Mail from within OS 9.2.2. It's an OS X program. You must boot into OS X. As for saving your address books etc. - your OS 9.2.2 setup won't be affected by your OS X setup. Simply import your mail and address book into Mail. Assuming that you've been using Outlook Express in 9.2.2, this is a fairly straightforward matter. But again - you have to boot into X in order to do it. Generally, once you open Mail for the first time in X it asks you if you want to import mailboxes - follow the directions and you'll be all set. It imports from a number of applications. Of course, in order to try this out myself, having only recently upgraded this computer to Jaguar (and running Entourage, not Mail as my primary email program) I said "ok" when it asked if I wanted to import my mailboxes from Entourage. Silly me...forgot that I have over 3000 messages in my Inbox and 4500 in my Sent Mail folder. God only knows when it will finish...and one of these days I'll delete 'em all, since I'm not about to edit TWO mail programs' inboxes etc. "Cancel" doesn't work once it starts...sigh. Force quit works though.

To get your addresses into the Address Book which Mail uses to store your contacts, the easiest method is to run the AppleScript that is in the Example AppleScripts in the Applications folder. It's called "Import Addresse.scpt".
