Wah!
« on: March 31, 2003, 10:29:00 PM »
Ive been getting up at 9 a.m. for a few days now, expecting the knock at the door that would signal my Powerlogix 800 63 processor had arrived. I got tired of this so i emailed OWC and found "in and shipping tomorow" had changed to "back ordered and arriving in two weeks."
Meanwhile, my new Lacie HD is very buggy.  spent a long time on phone (to Washington state) and we updated the firmware but it still needs a few on/offs to recognize itself.
Among the messages are "no drive found," "disc does not have enough sectors." Toggling it off and on clears this up but the problem sometime continues from one use to the next. Lacie guy eventually said i should return it to Macwarehouse (i think that's who i bought it from!).
Also, my photocard reader now does not read. I have to pull the usb cable in and out for it to show up.
These two problems seem vaguely connected, other than that they are both happening to me.
(BW G3 jag).

If it's any comfort, my photocard reader (a Sandisk) also is a bit tempermental and sometimes requires the USB cable being unplugged and replugged. I just figure they're tempermental beasts...I had a different model of Sandisk under OS 9 which was more reliable on the whole than this one has ever been. I've never bothered testing it in other locations, since the plug/unplug manoeuver usually works and there are usually more urgent things to deal with.

My card slot adapter for my Powerbook always works - it's much more reliable.

Nothing more annoying than when all that technology that is supposed to save you time starts going wonky and suddenly you're spending hours putzing around trying to get it to work so that you can get back to...saving time!!

Those are the days when Letraset, Rapidograph pens and wax layout dummies almost start looking good again. Scary.    (of course...there was all that time spent trying to unclog those 0000 Rapidographs...)

Sorry about the problems HF. I just ordered a video card from MacWarehouse and expect it Wednesday. Thinking about a G3 processor upgrade also. I pay a little more (not a lot) but it's worth it for the service.

I still miss the old days. Paddy.

I always used SpeedBall or Micron Pigma pens. Threw my #@&$! Rapidiographs away years ago.

I had always wanted a big metro page size waxer. I finally got one but it's, of course, now obsolete and as useless as my $8,000 graphic camera. The former is still full of wax and the latter is still in the dark room with boxes of PMT paper and two developers. I use the darkroom (and camera) to store art supplies.

Yeah, I still have both, and other useless items from the good old days taking up space.

Well today i had idea that i might use my broken Lacie buner as a reader to make fast copies (the dvd-cdrom in the G3 being kind of slow). That won't work because when you hit copy, the burner (reader) the disc is in starts copying it to the cache, instead of the other burner copying it.
But since it was hooked up, i tried burning a disc with th eold lacie and it worked fine. Made two more. This is the one i just replaced. it might just be a change in media or knocking it around but now i have a spare if i feel like shipping back the "good" one.
