Advice on graphics card upgrade please
« on: April 12, 2003, 09:42:00 AM »
I have a G4 Quicksilver 733mhz machine and want to upgrade the graphics card, but I don't know what is compatible (AGP 2x 4x 8x ??) or which one is best. Can anyone please give me the benefit of their experience?

Hi max.

Looks like you have the nVidia GeForce2 MX.

You would see a modest improvement with an ATI RADEON 9000 or 8500.

The best cards are the new Radeo 9700 or the Geforce Ti. Both are pretty expensive.

Don't be concerned about 2x or 4x. All would work with your machine.

More a matter of will your machine be able to use them well.

See what they say here about your machine and Cards.

Thanks Kelly, much appreciated.
As the Ti is so expensive I think I'll go for one of the Radeon cards, which one is better do you think?

Both are good. I actually heard the 8500 is faster in some operations but....I only heard that. I have the NVIDIA MX 4 (64mb) in my QuickSilver 933 and it's good. My son plays alot of games......and at least he thinks so.

Hi max. I suggest the 9000 Pro to save a few bucks.

I have one in my Dual Gig MDD and it's fine.

In a couple years I might go for the Radeon 9700 or something.
