Quicken 2003 vs OS X 10.2.5

Have used Quicken since 1991. Am currently using the 2003 Deluxe version, which has worked well in OS X prior to updating to 10.2.5. Now when I enter the "payee" name on the check form (command+J), the program quits. Have tried reinstallation, disk repair utilities and many other approaches. It is related to 10.2.5 for when I boot up into 10.2.4 (external firewire drive), Quicken works fine. Returning to 10.2.5, problem reappears. A very reproduceable difficulty. Would appreciate all thoughts.

Curt, Glad to see that you found us, but will be gladder still when this pesky problem gets resolved. Notwithstanding, a hearty welcome to TechSurvivors.  

On the off chance (a desperate guess) this issue is related to a peripheral, does this issue manifest itself when all third party devices/hubs/mice/keyboards are removed?

Thanks for the welcome. I have not tried removing the peripherals; maybe I need to do that. However, as soon as I dropped back to OS X 10.2.4 (either on internal drive or external Firewire) with everything else constant, the issue disappeared. I did get a note from someone who had a similar problem and he/she deleted the quickfill list and began fresh which solved the problem. Maybe I need to install 10.2.5 on a spare internal disk, keeping 10.2.4 on my main internal. Then I can experiment, but will have the luxury of returning to a working environment when needed. The more I think about this, the better I like it. Thanks for making me use some gray cells.

When I installed 01.2.4 and Quicken 2003 on my spare hard drive, all went well. Updated to 01.2.5 and now all is still well. Reinstalled Quicken 2003 (but not the R4 update) on my main drive and all OK. Finally updated to 10.2.5, which is where this all started and everything is fine. Must have downloaded some corruption in the first 10.2.5 update. However, may leave the R4 alone!
Mystery appears to be solved.
