Safari Beta2 (v73) is available via Software Update.

"Safari Beta 2 introduces tabbed browsing to conveniently see and switch between multiple web pages in a single window, and AutoFill to instantly fill out web forms and password fields. This update also features increased standards compatibility and improved application stability".

So far so good.

I've heard some people have been using this for a while.

Yes, indeedy, to such an extent that Apple pulled the plugs on the places to get it.

Great. Thanks, Bill.

Huh?

Doesn't show up in my software update list...

Probably because it's the German OS. Funny, because Beta 2 has German language support.

[Edit] I was able to get it via http://www.apple.com/safari/download , so if anyone else has the same problem go there!

I have just finished downloading Safari Beta 2 and am using it right now.

I love it! Tabbed browsing is sooo cool!
And the new features and (some of the) re-designed/re-organized menus are great!

One step closer to trashing IE!

Odd.
It didn't object in French...

And the further good news is that  Safaricon still works.
So does   Safari Enhancer, once you've collected the version built for v71.

I am going to trash IE, if my daughter agrees.
This one is it.
(Along with the others I'll keep...    )

What I can't figure out is this: privacy reset?.
Derrick Story says it's "included under the Safari menu item as 'Reset Safari...'," but I'm darned if I can find that.

I am going to try test driving Safari for at least a couple of days as my browser of choice.

With the addition of tabbed browsing, Safari has really gotten an edge at this point in making a final switch.

Another thing that worked that other browsers have a hard time doing is handling .wmv's.  Never had a browser actually handle that type of file correctly, but on the first attemp, Safari downloaded the file, opened WMP and WMP played it.

But, two things still don't set with me at this time...

One, there is no cache controls, just empty cache...If I don't empty the cache once in a while, how big will it actually get?  We need better cache control.

Two, when scrolling with my scroll wheel (Mouse - Logitech MouseMan Optical), Safari is extremely slow, or should I say that it takes only little steps at a time.  Causing it to take forever to scoll down a large page.  Anyone else notice this?

Another question, what happens when you press "Reset Safari"?

Getting better, that's for sure...

From Mr.Ts link Al.
"But I wouldn't be quite as pleased about the password feature had Privacy Reset not been added too. The feature is included under the Safari menu as "Reset Safari...". When you choose it, everything gets wiped: history, cache, downloads, Google search entries, cookies, saved names, passwords, and AutoFill text."

Al.

You can deactivate the cache in Safari with  Safari Enhancer.

I am eager enough to dump IE, but prefer to avoid betas. So, any thoughts or best guesses when Safari will be become an official (non beta) release?

It looks like I will find many benefits, but what disadvantages, vis-à-vis Safari are likely? And, has anyone seen a matrix comparing the pros and cons of the different browsers?

Many thanks,
Harv
