Well i got the Powerlogix 800 processor into my BWG3 and i guess it's OK. I didnt get very far at all on the addition of my 120 OWC HD.
The 800 was simple but it was a little surprising to see it didnt look anything like the one in the instructions or the one that was in in there. It wouldbe easier if like all intructions, it said exactly what to do. Like "line up the pins." If it said, "note there are no pins in a certain corner and that is how you orient it," it would save some grief.
i guess i should be thrilled it came with instructions. I was not delighted to see it came with an addendum and a tube of goop that is not noted in the full instructions.
It says to put a SMALL (their caps) amount of thermal grease to the bottom of the heat sink and make sure the heat sink is in full contract with the chip.
They seem to be concerned about this but not enough to make it clear. How small is a capitalized small. One drop? Two? Where do you put it? And how do you make sure the sink is touching the chip, especially after putting this stuff between the two surfaces. Does this help or hinder? They warn about overheating and I am concerned too. I'll take it apart if someone has a good idea to on how to double check.
About the HD, well ... the instructions at xlr8 your mac are not made for idiots.
I might need someone who can get past the first thing, which i think was disconnect the ATC power supply. There's latch, it says, press it. Well i pressed and pressed every way i could. i didnt want to break it. i left it at that. my wife is coming back from Paris Monday and the computer is still working, or is it cooking? I'll leave it at that for now.
The chip? Seems faster, not twice as fast. The real time thing i'd like to see in all these tests "is burn a CD." What could be simpler? It tried one and it would not really burn at 24X. i'll try again.
Photoshop seems peppier.
somebody get back to me on that heat sink thing. It's bugging me already.
