Safari
« on: April 21, 2003, 03:14:00 PM »
Well, I finally took the advice of several TS stalwarts. I DL and installed Safari today. Sure enough

There is still much learning to be done, but what a delight. And so fast. It?s hard to believe it is still beta.

The fonts on some pages look a bit fuzzy (to me). Perhaps if I can find the Quartz switch.

Still, IE has now been relegated to the back burner.

Just about the time I was really extolling the virtues and speed and elegance of Safari, the gods doth punish me. Ah, pride is a most dreadful companion.   And maybe there is a reason the release says Beta!

All of a sudden, when ever I would hit the Command, Option, Control, or Shift key, the corresponding symbol would appear (in white) on my screen. Huh? Says I.

The symbols were about a half inch square, in the middle of the screen and near, but not touching the right edge. Subsequent clicks would make the symbols disappear.

A call to Apple indicated that this might be related to Safari and that I had best to create a new User Account, delete the User Preferences Folder, etc.

Since I keep a clean (but not quite sterile) copy of OS X on a separate drive, it was,  IMNHO, easier just to create a new OS X with Carbon Copy Cloner. So that is what I did, and all  is again right with the world

Still, I eagerly await the real release Safari.

Many on the CSS digest I lurk on are eagerly awaiting a final release also. It still has problems with CSS, but that is not unusual, many browsers implement the standards in different ways. Makes for much knashing of developer teeth!

Of course, since it doesn't run on 9...

I have IE 5.1.6 for IOS 9.2.2 and IE 5.2.x for OS 10.2.5. How do I move all my favorites from IE to Safari.

I am eager to leave IE, Netscape which have caused me to lose what little hair I have left.

Mamamoose,

When you started up Safari for the very first time, it automatically imported your IE and NS bookmarks.

Go to "Bookmarks" and select "Show All Bookmark", in there you should find all your imported bookmarks.

Mama, you don’t gotta do nuthin. When you install Safari it just automatically goes and gets/imports your old bookmarks/favorites by its own self. Now how they are organized when fetching them from both IE and Netscape is unknown (to me anyway).

BTW, I liked Safari so much that I will give it another go after I have done a bit of homework...just to ensure I do not repeat my problem above.

I've been using Safari from the very first & swear by it. I load much faster even tho I am on dial-up.
Any link I navigate to renders faster, too.
Because it's still beta, I have kept my Explorer but never use it anymore.
The latest version (73) of Safari now has auto-fill.
Still to come, I hope, is dialog on Downloads telling you how long the download is going to take.
I believe I read that final version is due out in June.
Another feature I'm looking forward to is being able to resume downloads.....which will pbly be in the final version.
