The new board
« on: April 08, 2003, 06:19:00 PM »
Went there, couldn't post. Tried to reply in one of the "test" threads twice. Both times the result was a blank page after hitting the "post reply" button. All white. Nothing. My intent was to test the speed of taking me back to the thread after a post. That is agonizingly slow on this board with my dial up connection. Never got that far. I wonder if it's a problem on my end. If the new board becomes the only board, I could be stuck without TS at home.

Keep trying. Hopefully it is just a particularly circuitous internet path.

Jim, maybe it's a time of day thing. Some day when I'm home at a different time, I'll try again. I did try again the next evening to no avail.

And please specify which Browser and version you are using, (and which OS version, too).

Didn't get to TS at home last night. The browser is netscape 4.77 and the OS is 9.2.2

I think the cookies are chocolate chip.

I'll try to do a taste test this weekend and let you know.

Well I got into the new board again here at home and actually got a "reply" window to load. It was very, very, v e r y - s l o w. I hit the stop button before the topic page was finished grinding, but could not out-wait the lethargic refresh after posting a reply. If it remains that slow long term after the new board is up, I will not be visiting TS at home.

My cookie setting is "only accept cookies that are sent back to the originating server" ....does that make it slow? It's got to be three or four times slower than this "old" board.

It's not your cookie setting.

It may be some work that Kris and I are performing on the board, so don't give up yet!  One of the things about this new software is the board must refence the database each time, and I'm afraid the database ain't exactly correct, due to the conversion.  Maybe

Any plans on if or when a switch will be made to the new board? It sure seems a whole lot faster to me.

no.

We're still playing with it, making sure the conversion works.  One thing we're having problems with is forcing a search index of the converted threads, we're getting a time out.

There are other little aggravations, and we want it to work RIGHT when we switch.

Gregg...

Just a thought... but what "theme" are you using over there? You can choose them in your profile... I can't give you a fair comparison on the speed being on cable, but I found that with NS4.76 the Appalachia theme works very well for me.

The scrolling is very smooth, fonts are legible and I'm not having any trouble with speed delays switching between threads or after posting. My OS is 9.1

That one is real easy.

Eliminate the search features all together.

After all the only better searcher than Kelly is google and he's gaining ground every day.
What's the old phrase - second place tries harder -. <gr>
Then there's Paddy. She's breathing down Kellys neck .... or is that flirting with K .... ? <gr>

Sounds OK to me Jennie. Better to take the time now than to have unhappy members later on.

I can't log on to the new board at all. It tells me my user name or password is wrong....but I'm here ok....I will just go to the corner to pout.     I am on that "other" device right now....I will try it with the iBook later...I wouldn't think it would matter though, but we shall see....trish
