answering machine to computer files ???
« on: April 21, 2003, 04:47:00 PM »
Hello all,

Does anyone know how to get saved messages off of an answering machine and onto a computer file?

I have several saved phone messages from my 3 year old daughter at work on my answering machine and I'd like to permanently store them on my computer.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Is there a Website or application that provides the ability to connect to a regular telephone number?  Then I could tell the answering machine to play back the recording and save the streaming data as a computer file of some sort.

How are they recorded? Is it on audio tape, some sort of disk?
Is it anything removable that you can play elsewhere?

As far as I know they are probably stored at some Answering Service - MemoryCall. There is no tape.  To retrieve my phone messages I have to call a telephone number.

This could work. Buy one of those suction cup phone microphones (RadioShack?) and plug it into your computer's mike input jack.

In OS 9 you can use the Sound control panel to record the sound (I believe), in OS X you'll need a third party application. Save as a QT movie.

Enjoy the memories.

EDIT:: Just thinking...isn't there some software that'll act as a phone? Dial, talk, etc. maybe even record?

The software that'll act as a phone? Dial, talk, etc. maybe even record is what I'm looking for.   BTW, hopefully for OSX, but I suppose I could alsways switch into 9.2.2

Don't know whether these are any help.

There seems to be much more of this sort of stuff for PC.
