Thanks, kelly.  I know you are right about the movie GB's.  I gave up trying to save even snippets of movies on my Zip drive (came with the G3 tower).

I don't understand why anyone doesn't need a floppy drive?  I write articles and letters, web pages, and low-k pictures (like JPG's).  My hobby is pulling freeze-frames off videos.  So I would still like to have a floppy.

Anyway, I'll visit the local Comp USA -- I think that's the only place around here that sells Macs.  Then I'll get back to you and let you lead me into (low-end) temptation again!

FYI to your first post:

I have a FrankenMac 7600G3/350. Running OS 9.1

I use the Apple Video Player all the time, and it works great! I watch full screen video on my 19" monitor using a VCR or DVD Deck.

I do have to use the built-in video – and not the Radeon PCI card though. It's a bottleneck with the PCI bus.

zodraz,I don't get it.  I spent a whole day putting OS 9.0 and the upgrades on my beige G3 tower, and my AVP would not work.  The only icon it showed was the old reel-style movie camera.  There was no icon for the VCR any more.  Ultimately, I re-installed 8.6, and the AVP worked fine.

Do you have any idea why that may have happened?  There was nothing in the Apple library that even suggested such a problem.

Lorraine, isn't there an Apple store at Woodfield Mall? Maybe that's not very "local" from where you are...

This is one of the things that I love best about TS -- getting a little golden nugget of information that you didn't even ask for.

Gregg, I didn't even know there were "Apple" stores outside of the internet! (Believe it!)

I have gone to Woodfield Mall twice since it was built.  It is much farther from my home than I need to go to shop -- but definitely close enough to buy a Mac!!

The last time I went to CompUSA and priced Macs (about 2 years ago) everything was great until they tried to sell me an extended warranty for over $600!!  We just got up off the floor and left, haven't been back.

I'm on my way to Woodfield!!  Thanks again for the tip!!

Lorraine, you're kidding me! You must not come here often enough, and it's not that far! There have been lots of threads about the opening of Apple retail stores all over the US. I was the first to announce the Milwaukee store here, and the other "cheeseheads" from up north were anxious to visit. Some of them made it before I did, and I'm less than 5 miles from it. (for now) That was nearly a year ago,  and I've been to the store just 3 times.

I used to go to Woodfield Mall regularly when I was in high school and college, and it was 50 miles away. I was within 5 miles of Woodfield shortly after I heard the Apple Store was open, but didn't have time to stop in before the show at Medieval Times. I rarely go to malls anymore, but I'm not supposed to like to shop. But you! C'mon! You need professional help woman!

Glad to be of service. Can't wait for your analysis of my stereotyping.

Oh, that is just such a typical guy-thing,Gregg!

I guess I just didn't pay attention to new store openings.  I just bop into TS when I need something -- y'know, like when our teenagers start acting real courteous & sweet -- or I just scan for areas of interest to me.

I do have another problem right now -- Gee, you all look so good today!  I'll send a separate string...
