Just used software update and everything went well. I Repair Permissions before and after, and unconnected any peripherals.

Is it really necessary to disconnect peripherals? I would think you should leave them connected so that the new system could detect and set up for them.

Now, instead of a quick tap to eject one’s optical media, device, or volume, the Eject key must be held down for a half second or so.

I DID NOTICE THAT!
and i LIKEE that update!

10.4.9 Update

One thing I noticed with the update.  Just as noted on xlr8yourmac .... after updating to 10.4.9(using the delta version), my APC UPS devices were no longer recognized by the Energy Saver system pref.  This was true for each of the each of the 3 systems to which I've applied the update (2 G5 iMacs and a G4 Mini).  Disconnecting the usb cable and reconnecting it causes the UPS to be recognized again ..... however after a shut down and restart ..... communication with the UPS is again lost.  I have not yet tried to reinstall the update via the combo updater, nor have I tried to use APC's shut down software (which I have never used, since OSX, up until this latest update, controlled the UPS just fine).  If anyone is having a similar issue .... or no issue, please post (including UPS brand).

UPDATE:  The only way I was able to solve the problem was to apply the combo updater.  Normally, I do my updates with the combo updater rather than the incremental updates .... and in retrospect, should have done the same this time.  After reapplying 10.4.9 via the combo updater (to all three systems), the energy saver preference panel now recognizes my UPS units after a cold start or restart.

One of the guys in the office was reading me this but I didn't have time to post it then:

ttp://digg.com/apple/OS_10_4_9_Update_Causing_Ugly_Crashes

I don't know but I'll wait and see how this one shakes out!

I saw this picture and thought it could be the mascot feline for 10.5:

Later: I realized that I had 2 10.4.8 partitions to choose from (one on an external firewire drive) so I went ahead and ran the 10.4.9 upgrade on it!  Seems to work well and comes up faster I think.  I'm not sure about the eject button behavior (My keyboard is a MACALLY iKey and doesn't have an eject button) so I use F12 which also kicks in the Dashboard first so it's always been hold it down to get a drive eject.

Even Later: I don't know if the crash was ugly but it went from playing something in iTunes to a blue screen and the spinning circle of dashes you get when it's booting.  Didn't come back 20 minutes later so I rebooted the thing and booted the other volume!

^Love the kitty. smile.gif

Ran the 10.4.9 update and have had NO probs.  dntknw.gif  It would be most interesting to compare all the "extra" stuff folks have running to see if any of that contributes.

•Repaired Permissions and ran DiskWarrior
•Upgraded via the Software update CP as usual
•Repaired Permissions and ran DiskWarrior again

Did notice the eject key thing. I like it now that I know it's intentional, I thought something was wrong!

Seems a lot faster to me. Especially opening applications like Photoshop that seemed to lag a little before.

No problems so far.

Just updated myself... well... not myself (i wish) but my iBook tongue.gif
All is well although I havent' checked the sound increase on my iBook yet, would be nice to have that actually.

About the eject key, I kinda hoped it would have been done for the laptop computers, cause just like on my iBook, the eject key = the F12 key so I have to choose what to use it for.
Since my Dashboard is my upper right window corner I disabled the F12 key and only use it to eject.... although not even that since most of the time I just use the key combination "cmd+E" in the finder.
So I tried if I could use the F12 key (just pressing it) to activate Dashboard, and use the Eject key (Press and hold a second) to eject Media but that is not working, pitty sad.gif
Actually, I have the feeling the Eject Key is not working at all... oh well, I'm used using shortcut commands so I'll get by. smile.gif

Now I have to update my TS signature.
