thanx.gif Bill,

On both my PPC DP 800 and my 2' Intel Machine...

1. Made and verified bootable backups
2. Repaired Permissions and ran DiskWarrior
3. Disconnected all peripherals (except keyboard and mouse)
4. Used the Combo installer
5. After installation, re-ran DiskWarrior and again Repaired Permissions (no issues noted).

I haven't a clue what gremlins lurk, but initially, all seems dandy. Maybe tomorrow, the tune I sing will be different. But as of now, all is sweetness and light. cheer.gif  clap.gif

Had to happen! I just upgraded to 4.8 last Saturday! laugh.gif As my standard practice is to move very slowly on these things, I suppose I'll download this one a few months after Leopard gets it's first upgrade! blush-anim-cl.gif rofl.gif How do people find time to do all the 'dance' steps! dntknw.gif

Thank you for the notice and link, I will put it on my G5 first, then get the intel one and stick it on my husbands new Mac.

Ive been thinking that I should update this 10.3.9 Mac, as I am not concerned with the version of Bryce that would not run on 10.4 any more.

Yes I should do it.  My Tiger disk is at one of our kids houses in Boston, but they will bring it next visit with the grandkids.

10.4.9 is one of the most significant "point" upgrades Apple has ever released, and implements a LOT of improvements, bugfixes, and security fixes (including fixes for the problems reported on the Month of Apple Bugs Web site). It also fixes potential problems with Dashboard, improves application launch times, improves handling of corrupt or damaged fonts to make font-related crashes less likely, implemets many networking bugfixes and stability improvements, and even improves PDF handling in Preview.

I'd recommend not waiting to install this one. smile.gif

Hi Tacit,  I just fired it up on my G5, and it is really nice, things seem faster.
But I had not seen any problems earlier.  But I always install the new OS upgrades as soon as you all here say to.
I will do my husband's brand new MacTell tomorrow morning.....

But I was wondering if I should do this one, my G4 iMac 20" machine?  Which is 10.3.9.
I will have to get the Tiger disc that went up with the grandkids to Boston to upgrade the old G4 tower which I gave them.
Then after installing it, I would have to go to 10.4.8 before going to .9?
Anyway, I know I should do it.
Thank you!
Jane

I went ahead with the update. No problems at this time. It might be a bit early to see if things are quicker, improved, etc., but the download/install was uneventful.

Hi Tacit, How about starting an online Mac school, eh?
I could get you many many students, I would be #1.
Check out LVS, they are hiring, and you would be a winner!
I am not kidding, you would be great.  You have a knack for explaining stuff.

The next big cat!  The one with the spots.  And the iPhone.  And the iWhatever next.
Its great.

But did you see on the news this morning that advertising will boom on cell phones, because of the way they will be used.  No longer are they just for voice communications, but for surfing the web, and other computer like stuff.
So the ads will come! The news guy was talking billions of dollars!
But I am assuming that if I keep my little regular cell phone which has none of those capabilities, will it become bombarded with ads?  I dont think it could happen, how could they do it.  Yes, they could call me relentlessely, but no answer if I dont know the caller ID?
This will be quite interesting as our phones get more interactive.
