firefox version 17.0.8esr
« on: December 29, 2013, 09:42:27 AM »
I finally got around to installing firefox-17.0.8esr this morning.

Totally messed up TS site:

[attachment=2945:Screen_s...34.11_AM.jpg]

What did I do wrong, besides installing v17?

Could it be the skin I am using?

Why are you using FF 17? Perhaps you should try the the latest version, namely FF 26.0.  TS loads fine for me with that version.

Because that version was supposed to be stable, and would not continually have new version numbers ad infinitum.

And other reasons which I forget. (that happens a lot these days.)

BTW, I have reverted to v3.6.24.

I will not use Google Chrome, and Safari leaves a whole lot to be desired.

I guess that puts me in the same league with some of the other slow adopters.

Jack, if you want to use one of the "stable" esr versions of FF, at least use the most recent one, which is 24.0, not 17, which came out over a year ago. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html

Personally, I've seen no issues with the frequently updated versions of FF. I have it set to automatically update.

I've never seen FF mess up anything like the screenshot you've posted - which, BTW, isn't a forum page, but a simple HTML page and should load just fine in any browser.

I just installed/updated to FF 26 yesterday (a financial site has a plugin for it that doesn't work in any other Mac browser). But I did visit TS and saw no problems. What "skin" are you using at TS?

Jack's using the TS default skin which should be fine.

I use Golden Wine and it has been fine on all configurations and browsers...so far.  smile.gif

Paddy,

I dl'd v17esr several weeks (or months) ago, and forget why I thought i would be good. I sure don't need it for support for a large organization!

I guess I just got tired of all the 'major' version numbers even tho the changes were small, and sometimes seemingly inconsequential.

So I guess I'll try v24.

Thanks!

Jack

Installed v24 & seems to be working fine.

But one question on tabs:

Is there any way to get tabs to display with name only without folder symbol on left (as per v3.6) ?
Take up too much room.
I already know they are folders.  diablo.gif

"Tabs?" I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you possibly using the built-in Bookmark manager? dntknw.gif Perhaps <this page can get you started> on a solution.

Does <"Tab Groups"> have anything to do with what you're talking about?

Yeah, I got's tabs! lots of them, sometimes. And that's in all the browsers I use. wink.gif

But what I don't have is the "folder" thing you mentioned:
QUOTE

Are you saying (without a screen shot [hint, hint]) that the only image/icon/picture in any tab is one of a 'folder' instead of what the site sometimes provides? Really, a screenshot would help. wink.gif I only have four tabs right now.

Chrome display

FF display

One is the TS 'life-ring' thing, two are for a PS Elements site (a square box with "PET") in it, and the last one is my local 'Home' page which is simply an html document, so it shows as a 'piece-of-paper-with-a-folded-down-corner' thing. I don't think I can ever remember seeing anything that looked like a 'folder' icon. But I assumed that it must have been a 'folder' full of sites/pages/tabs/etc. Bad assumption, as usual.

At any rate, the ':about config:' option/url has dozens of user choices and I thought you might find a setting there. Sorry I can't be of any real help. sad.gif

Cookies Leave Crumbs!!! laughhard.gif But does the tab display now work properly or did the crumb cleaning just fix the linking actions:

Jim,

Here's the screenshot (firefox-24.0):

[attachment=2946:firefox_tab_bar.jpg]

Each folder has several sites within.

Please note the folder icons - these were not there in previous version.

I will look at about config, but i know that list goes on forever.

Thanks,

Jack

OK! The 'folder' icons are not in the tabs at all! wallbash.gif I actually have some of the same things, in the same place, in my Chrome image above. They are probably created the same way in FF: Bookmarks->Bookmark All Tabs... A small window pops up and you can put the current group of tabs into any folder already created or use the "Add New Folder" button to uhmn... add a new folder. wacko.gif

I only did that a few times to see if it would be of use. While it's handy in Chrome, it is useless in any of the other browsers I use. That's why I don't use the Bookmarking functions of any browser (except for these limited, educational uses). I use three browsers now and have used many more in the past and who knows when I might try another one in the future. So using browser-specific Bookmarks is just a make-work process, sooner or later the Bookmarks will become different in each browser.

But, as you can see in the Chrome display image, it uses exactly the same 'folder' icon. That only seems logical to me since that's what those links (buttons, really) are; folders of urls. It's simply a representation of how the browser stores you Bookmarked tabs; folders.

What you want is to have no icon, right? Perhaps you could request that the Developers allow a simple 1x1 colorless gif as a choice? Or simply a "no icon" choice! wink.gif

What other icon might be appropriate there? Perhaps some other image the user could pick from a selection of icons? Perhaps any image (that would be automatically resized)? Sounds like something you might ask for from the developers. dntknw.gif
