Hello all

This is kbeartx's daughter, for those of you who care. I have known about this site since the beginning, well sort of, and I have a problem that I'm hoping you may be able to give me some answers with.  I really want to be able to download music off the internet, like everyone else in the world. But I can't find any software or downloads that work on macs, I know there has to be something for macs, it can't be that everybody can download music except for mac people. So, that is my plight, maybe somebody has advice for me. Thanks

Try www.limewire.com. I use it now and then. Sometimes it's a little slow, but it's worth a shot.

Yes, Lorian (AKA loqi_recluse) is my amazing, intelligent, creative, beautiful daughter (I'm allowed a little Parental Pride, aren't I?).

To forestall some questions, she is using a 266 MHz G3 DT 384 MB RAM, running OS 8.6 and has a broadband (SBC-Yahoo DSL) internet connection.

I have tried Limewire on several occasions mice-elf (last time was about a year ago), but have never gotten it to work (that is, I did not find what I was looking for).

Here are some possibile explanations for this that occur to me:

 - LimeWire's interface is so counter-intuitive that I might have been using it improperly

 - the song(s) I was seeking were not sufficiently 'popular' among the LimeWire user 'population', so no-one had them, or the 'population' was just too small back then

 - LimeWire basically sucked at the time (and maybe has improved in the interim?)

 - LimeWire does not work well (or at all) with older OSes, such as 9.1 (which is what I've used for a few years)

That's my $.42!

 - kbeartx

It has improved some, Kenny - but still isn't All Star material by any means. As you point out, on occasion a search won't turn up the item you're looking for. Ran into that myself tonight. Hopefully someone will come up with a post for something that we don't know about yet that is a better alternative.
I recently read about iMesh and Blubster, but after investigating found out that they of course were Windows only.

To TeeEss comes now, our Kbear's Miss Lori-an,
Grood Gracious! I pondered, could this be a first?
A Father, then Daughter, both in our little tent!
Ah, but Magpie and danF are a related "event"?

But, let's cheer, irrespective of who's first, and who's not
What's important - - right here - - are folks, with their "begots"
So welcome, Miss Kbear, have you a talent that's musical?
Or, will you aid your Olde Man as the Board's Grammer Oracle.  police.gif

OK, so OK, these rhymes are a bit, just a bit, strained,
This is a quick welcome, which dodges most pain  wallbash.gif
I trust I succeeded in a warm, simple "Welcome!",
No elegy, no couplet, no sonnet, no anthem. harhar.gif

Happy to have you here, Lorian clap.gif

Welcome to TS, Lorian!

Hmmm...maybe you're going to have to persuade your Dad to upgrade your iMac and install OS X! A nice little OS X- only shareware app that I find MUCH easier to use than Limewire is Acquisition. You can get it here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo...fo/macosx/15375. Another similar app (which is freeware, rather than shareware) is Poisoned. Again, it's for OS X only. It's search results seem to be a tad wacky - everything but the kitchen sink turns up, but if you don't mind doing a bit of a wade through the results, you can usually find things, possibly with more success than with Acquisition.

I haven't found OS 8.6/OS 9 equivalents, unfortunately. And Limewire gets dubbed "Lameware" by users at Versiontracker.
tongue.gif  I know that any time I tried to use it, I gave up in frustration.

welcome.gif Lor-ian!  There is an application out there called "neo", but I'm not sure what's going on with that; I used it with great success for awhile, and then stopped.  Just for grins and giggles, I fired it up the other night, but everybody was refusing to connect. . .That may be because of the RIAA's recent actions.  You might want to check this out:

Loqi_Recluse, Thanks for posting your question. I have been using Macs for about 15 years, but I know nothing about recording music from the internet. This may now be an opportunity for me to learn a bit.

So indeed I am glad you to "meet" you and join the others in extending to you a most hearty welcome.gif

Hi Lorian. Welcome to the Forum. smile.gif

A pleasure to have you here.

You should be proud of your Father.

He was a big part of making this site.

Of course. You may like him for other reasons. Or not. wink.gif

I don't download music. But any other mac questions. Be glad to help. smile.gif

Wow! I feel so loved! blush-anim-cl.gif
Much applause to your welcome poem, RHP, sorry, I don't know you're real name yet....if you have a real name....
 dry.gif   wink.gif
And no I do not take after my father, grammar wise, sorry. But I do love music, if you want to know. I play guitar, and stuff. Oh well, I tried limewire, once again, and once again it didn't work. But thanks for all the help, I'll try those and report back later.
Thanks for your warm welcome!

Lorian

Actually, I don't have a real name (or identity) . . . I am, in fact, merely figment of Pendragon's imagination.

Now, get your Dad to explain explain that! jawdrop.gif
