Diana,
You got a lot farther on it on Linux than I did! I can now see the damning photographs - proof!, proof! I say - on the site you set up, on my Linux machine.
On original site, I could see all the photograhs via IE 5.1.6 running on a Mac, except photograph #5 - just a black page on that one.
I spoke with the originating Webmeister. As I understand it, the pictures are a Powerpoint presentation which he posted on his web site using Microsoft software on a Macintosh. That his web site does not require Flash or Shockwave plug-ins, but that he does make use of Javascript.
He expressed surprise that the presentation did not work on multiple browsers, but not a whole lot of interest - stating that Microsoft browsers are in use by perhaps 95% of the web population, that it would take him hours to set it up so that the remaining 5% could see it, and that he would find it difficult to find the time.
I tried the usual couterarguments - all very civil - I think, to little avail.
Ah, well.
His approach is understandable, but I don't have to like it.
If you are a commercial web site, it makes financial sense to take the extra effort to make your site accessible to every last customer that you can.
If your web site is something of a lark, one can understand a more casual attitude.
To me this is just another example - similar to the example of the Opera browser not loading the Microsoft web site - of Microsoft intentionally crippling the effectiveness of competing software. Nothing new, here - just longstanding consistent corporate policy.
Regards,
Epaminondas
