Today I noticed that I couldn't get in here to visit. That was around ... oh ... 10ish my time. I think that's the correct time. I was busy doing nurse duties and wasn't paying real close attention to the clock.

TS and ASO were unreachable for at least 2 hours this AM starting around 4 AM EDT.

In case you tried and couldn't get here... smile.gif

Kris, you don't happen to have an iSight camera, do you. May be best not to have it on outside of "normal" hours...at least after your comments about your single shot at the East Coast TS Conference! tongue.gif rofl.gif nono.gif tomato.gif

I would say that might be best for all concerned, but I'm too much a gentleman to do that. tomato.gif

OTOH, I picked up two FireWire webcams for 50 bucks last week! But they don't mount on a monitor (or a laptop screen) too well. Finding a place on my wife's desktop may be the biggest problem...maybe I can hang it from the ceiling...at least until she see an image of herself! laugh.gif

As for the original topic of this thread, once again, I just stopped FF from spinning its little pizza and tried again a few seconds later and the connection was almost instantaneous. dntknw.gif

FYI, if the problem persists you can request that your DNS be moved to another server.
It would be helpful if you can demonstrate a history and reasons why.
I have requested this from ASO in the past and the results are noticeable.

(A) Ana Lucia is an older server by now and the older ones seem to get the new smaller accounts as time goes on. (guessing) These new additions are watched for over-activity but, there is a time-laps or moments of surge in activity that can only be detected after the fact.

When I set up this account I requested (from Tim) that it be placed on the latest addition, making it known to him the problems we had experienced in our past. Ana Lucia's hardware had just been upgraded at the time so we received the best performance available.

Meet Ana Lucia! ;-)

SB, we've been keeping an eye on it. I actually discovered a way to check EVERY server's status at ASO and that told us a lot - there are about 3 servers that seem "underpopulated" and if things get to the point where we think we need to do something, we will request to move to one of them. smile.gif

ASO has grown quite a bit but thankfully they are pretty quick to respond to problems.

In some digging we found that AnaLucia has "476 sites hosted on this server". That may be part of the reason for our outages. Seems a bit much for one server.

"NS1.ASMALLORANGE.COM has 26,434 domains". There are 81 servers (not all active at any one time) so the average would be about 326 sites per server. Of course all sites aren't the same size or have the same bandwidth demands so that kind of statistic can be misleading.

Nonetheless we are watching and may ask for a move at some point.

What Chris saw is the normal window you will get when the site is not reachable. Usually it is only for a short time due to 'traffic'.

However, I've been told by ASO that the unusual bandwidth I noticed in the database early in May was most likely a Denial of Service attack. It was instigated by a Russian site which I've since put on the deny list in our htaccess file so they won't be able to do it again. Why anyone would pick us is beyond me. dntknw.gif

Probably just random troublemaking. dry.gif

Paddy it's been sometime since I've had a server issue but it seems to me that using the link that your referring to, I was able  to select the best server when I move a DNS from Vincent back in 2005 according to my email history. Wow has it been that long ago? smile.gif

Kris said: "Nonetheless we are watching and may ask for a move at some point."

Kris if you can get an inside angle on a hardware update (aso forums) it is usually a good indication that the New Server will be larger and faster than the last one. I was reading their site at the time when I discovered that a New Server was coming and so I requested that the troubled Domain be transferred to that new server. At a later date I used that link (paddy referred too)and the forum to request a space for TS, Ana Lucia was just upgraded at the time. ASO is still my favorite Host Company and I deal with a few. When the opportunity  presents itself I try to convince folks to move their domains there. They have issues like everyone else but they seem to handle them pleasantly and promptly which isn't found with all other host.

Good luck! wink.gif

Thanks Mark. I've been following some of the other's experiences on the ASO forum and they have mentioned a compatibility problem that they are trying to address with new servers. Will watch the results of that thread.

TS was out, as was ASO, for about 25 minutes this aft shortly before and after 1 PM EDT.

cheese.....or leave it to beaver......whatever
right after I said....it's been sometime since I had a server issue......I had a server issue.
I got a Mail Delivery System bounce <Mailer-Daemon@vincent.asmallorange.com> from Sat, 31 Mar 2007 04:38:29 -0400
User-Agent: Microsoft-Entourage/11.3.3.061214
Date: Sat, 31 Mar 2007 04:38:28 -0400 > To: Krissel selvig who said:
"> Sent this via TS email but obviously it didn't go through...
>
> Had a real slowdown, then couldn't get through at all."

my response was:
Hi kris, yup I put a ticket out on it 10min ago
--
Mark~

The email was sent the the whole crew, but when I replied the email bounce back because of Kelly's address according to the alert.

Can't trust that Vincent dude! wink.gif

So today I go into cPanels but instead of going to my server I end up in Vincent who has been playing a roll all along. My Archaeological Dig has turned up some very interesting artifacts. smile.gif
