SOMETIMES AN AVATAR
« on: May 17, 2003, 10:09:40 AM »
Well, it's a new board, and time for another analysis of our little growing family.  In the past we found out the rationale behind folks' choice of  User Name; and then astrological signs.  Can we learn, now, from anyone willing to explain, why they chose the avatar they did to represent themselves on the board?

Mine shows Doraemon, one of the most famous Japanese Manga characters.

Doraemon is a cat robot from the 22th century who has a magic poket with lots of useful futuristic tools.

I felt that this picture had a lot of positiveness. smile.gif

I think I had two reasons, really.

1. I wanted to learn how to scan an old photo & then down-size it to meet the avatar's specs.

2. I have fond memories of life at age six & enjoy looking at old family pics.

We recently had a lot of people's baby pictures upon a board at church & everyone enjoyed playing "guess who." BTW, my identity was guessed right away.

kelly, my dear man, no charge for you.  However, if weldiger insists on a consulting fee, please feel free to take care of that.  Perhaps we should take up a collection for him anyway, as he needs some spelling lessons, and higher education costs are skyrocketing, you know.

weldiger, thank you for the definition.  I am so glad you cleared that up.  I actually thought an avatar was a guy who flew airplanes.  Now it makes sense.

Bruce, I think your hummingbird flew the coop!  By the way, do you know that hummingbirds have the fastest heart rate of any living thing?  Not counting the guys watching J-Lo, that is.

Daffy, what a darling picture!  You must be a beautiful adult!

Hmmm... Spartacus, a Greek fighter-to-the-death, from Berlin, with a Japanese cat robot who has magic tools... You know, I'm just not going to go there.

Well, for my avatar--just check out my signature.  wub.gif  Molly never has a bad day, is always glad to see me, and if I feed her a bit late, she still wags her tail and gives kisses.

Of course, I was going to use an avatar showing a train entering a tunnel, but I worried that somebody would try to read something into that.  devilishgrin.gif

Hey Doc:

My first avatar, on the old board was Old Glory, hanging from an old Canary Island Palm, in front of the Olde Man's abode.

Over time, I concluded, despite the admirable symbolism, it was tt difficult to see.

Searching Google with abandon for inspiration in the design of a new avator failed to disclose what a curmudgeon looks like.

So, I took the easy way out (at my age, an oft selected alternatiive) and just chose an Olde Goat, assuming most of the TS Gang would get the message.

The secondary meaning is clear to anyone fortunate to have visited Glacier National Park in Montana where, for three glorious summers in my youth (not to say "callow youth") I was gainfully employed. Everyone should be so blessed.

PS: Send the invoice to Kelly

Hi,

I found mine in an AOL AIM library of buddy icons. As a horseman, the spirit and animation caught my eye. I now use it everywhere that allows the use of an avatar.

(old AIM one: )

I'm also a "stick in the mud" sorta person...once I choose, I rarely change so expect to see it for a while.  wacko.gif

PS..my Dad says it's a sign of old age when one quits voluntarily changing. I've been old since I was a teen so except for the effects of time and poor eating habits, I haven't changed.  harhar.gif

Edit: I changed it. Found an old picture of my favorite stallion. *grin..maybe I'm not so "old" after all.

Mine is a photo of my cat Simba that I had handy. Remember "All your base are belong to us"? - this photo was originally posted in a thread with the caption "all your computers belong to us"...she is sitting on the G3, a favorite perch when watching the neighborhood from inside the house. She is sitting between the printer and the PC keyboard right now, washing her face, as I type this. She's a great cat - a six-toed calico, very petite, but an incredible hunter (who, in occasional bouts of kitty-cat insanity, forgets her own size it would seem - I saw her take a leap at the neighborhood turkey last summer!), very affectionate and like most cats, has a mind of his own.

Anyway, never gotten around to changing it - far too busy lately, but maybe one of these days. I have some ideas - just have to come up with the images - and the time. smile.gif
